Learning Disabilities and Mental Health
This one day training course aims to give an introduction into how mental health issues can affect the lives of children and young people with learning disabilities.
Learning disabilities are a set of conditions in some young people’s brains which can affect how they learn new things – such as understanding complex information, developing new skills, or coping independently.
It’s estimated that around 1.5 million people in the UK have a learning disability.
This one day training course aims to give an introduction into how mental health issues can affect the lives of children and young people with learning disabilities.
By the end of the day, participants will:
- Be able to define and understand what we mean by both learning disabilities and mental health
- Have explored stigma and the impact of labels and diagnosis in the context of learning disabilities and mental health
- Know more about learning disabilities and mental health legislation
- Better understand the connection between mental health and emotional wellbeing
- Have learnt about disability and attachment, and explored the importance of connection and communication
